At 23 years old I expected myself to be married, have a house and be getting into my kick-ass career. Well… these were my goals when I was 15 years old. (Clearly, I had no concept of time … or life). For as long as I can remember, I have always known roughly what I want from life and the direction I would like to go in.
Since I was in secondary school, I had big dreams and worked towards them in various ways through hobbies and taking on extra work. I can honestly say, for me, kids and marriage are not on my mind. I am very much driven to live the life of a young care free person and have other experiences, as well as build myself a long and adventurous career (with the rest of life’s lovey dove stuff along the way).
This brings me to the now.
Over the last couple of years I have been saving (and holidaying) and doing as much as I can to understand and enjoy the weird wonders of this world we live in. I have huge aspirations to join a creative company who will allow me to show case my work ethic and develop myself in a super cool role bringing entertainment and inspiration to others. But, when this is a dream still in the works, and with my limited experience, I can find it quite hard to stay optimistic and sometimes feel the whole ‘YOU GO GIRL!’ slowly flying out the window. I have so many people around me who believe in me and constantly reassure me that patience is also key.
I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed the last year or so. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not unhappy. But I do find, as bad as it may sound, that when you’re not working towards what you’re passionate about, it takes over my happy emotions and dumps self-doubt and lowers confidence which often leads me to ask “am I ever actually going to achieve anything?”
But what I realise is, feeling this crap – IS NOT GOING TO GET YOU ANYWHERE. (The last year speaks for itself)
We all struggle from time to time with our confidence and self-doubt. This can be triggered from people telling us we can’t do things or the constant barriers written in red. E.g. the employer wants a degree and 3 years’ experience for an ENTRY LEVEL ROLE. What even is that?
The point is there is always going to be a way to do exactly what you want to do. It may take time to search or gain what you need to meet the requirements, but always have faith and just believe that it will definitely be worth it in the end.
Somewhere, there will be someone out there giving the same role away for just bit of experience. With hard work and a can-do, go get em attitude you can accomplish almost anything.
I know so many people who all feel like they’re in wrong job. I see them sitting there, dreaming of what they really want to be doing. Dreaming of visiting Canada, dreaming of learning about Science, dreaming of being anywhere else but at the desk they are sat.
The way I look at it is “what can I do today that will take me one step closer to what I want tomorrow?”
Whatever it is you want from your life, climbing a mountain, building a school in another country, becoming a parent, the absolute dream job role (me please), you must absolutely GO.FOR.IT.
I don’t think we take the expression ‘you only live once’ seriously enough. I have recently had to remind myself of this, and with everything else going on in the world there is no doubt that there is room for more great things.
Let’s not just make this a cool print on a t-shirt. Let’s make it a real thing for everyday life. The Earth we live on is humongous, and we all have every opportunity to do something great with the limited time we have, and foremost, be happy with our journey to getting what we want and getting Sh*t done!
So I encourage you to do something towards your goal everyday – it can start with a little bit of research, a bit of networking or talking to others about your dream. Do something you love each day and make sure you enjoy the journey you are on.
My goal is to make at least one of my ‘unrealistic goals’ my reality!
Whatever it is you want, there is already someone out there doing it – let us begin.

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. –Martin Luther King Jr.
If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten. –Tony Robbins
The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me. –Ayn Rand

And you gotta agree with this guy who believes …
